Our organization has been working on a project to support livestock rearing in minefield areas for vulnerable people living there, in collaboration with a local agricultural cooperative in Samroang district, Battambang province since 2016. The goal of the project is to enable the agricultural cooperative to independently operate the project.
One of the key activities in the project is conducting regular follow-up (home visits) to livestock-rearing households to ensure the health of the livestock, frequency of cleaning, and whether or not they are pregnant. In addition to the regular follow-up, this month we also conducted interviews with livestock-rearing households to review their income and expenses with the help of agricultural cooperative staff. During this month, the agricultural cooperative staff worked hard and diligently to complete these tasks. They divided into teams, visited 40 households, and used Excel and Google Forms to record the information, which was then automatically shared and accumulated.
One of the agricultural cooperative staff members started using a computer for the first time since joining the cooperative. Although he seemed not confident in operating the computer, he was able to record the information by himself, albeit slowly, with some guidance from our staff. He has been practicing typing for the past six months, and this is a great achievement for him.
Another agricultural cooperative staff member who is in charge of accounting is communicating well with the livestock-rearing households. We observed that she is familiar with operating the computer, and we hope that she will continue to learn formulas and shortcuts that will help her with accounting tasks. Other staff members support her by taking turns to take care of security, or assisting other staff members who are not good at using computers. The teamwork among the staff members was evident during this month.
In a few months, newborn livestock will begin to appear, and it will be important to accurately record and share information, and work together as a team to return the same number of livestock to the agricultural cooperative as the number of livestock provided, and then provide support to the next household in need.
At the beginning of the project, we did not know what kind of team the agricultural cooperative staff members would become, but after six months, we see that they are working cooperatively with each other. We will continue to support them so that the agricultural cooperative can operate more efficiently and effectively.
Thank you for your support of this project.
