Dear Supporter,
We are very excited to introduce you to GVI Service Learning.
Service learning is the combination of service (the hands-on part) +learning (the curriculum) + reflection (exploring experiences). It is about introducing theories that are taught in the classroom into real life experiences that benefit the community or environment. It is about balancing learning goals with real life experiences to enhance academic study.
Now, you might be wondering what this has to do with the National Scholarship Program? Let me answer that for you!
Our goal for the National Scholarship Program in the UK for 2016 is to be able to offer opportunities to students from low-income areas in the UK to go on, as a school group, a service learning project. The benefits of this are enormous. Students will get to travel internationally to engage in projects that will have a direct impact on the beneficiaries as well as impact their own lives.
Last year we told you about theTyne Met students who travelled to our community project in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Watch this video testimonial from two of the students!
Our aim for the National Scholarship Program is that we can sponsor part of each student's fees while they fundraise for the balance.
Thank you for making it possible for us to offer experiences like this. These experiences really do change young people's lives.
With Gratitude,
GVI Charitable Trust
