Dear Supporters,
We believe that learning is about being open to new experiences, about encountering the world in different ways and being exposed to the opportunity for experimentation. To us, learning is in infinitely more than sitting in a classroom, listening to a single teacher, reading a book, writing an essay. We have created this scholarship program to reflect the way that we believe facilitates learning, development and the creation of awareness.
So, what is this worth to a young person? How do we make sure that each scholar is provided with all of the support, opportunity and encouragement that they need to make this a valuable learning opportunity?
Facilitating Learning
All of our scholarship opportunities facilitate learning using three different approaches- learning through behaviour, cognitive learning and learning through individual experiences. Each program that scholars will go on will be slightly different, depending on the focus of the project, but the style of learning will be similar. The majority of the learning will take place informally, as part of a group, by being exposed to different settings and circumstances. It will also take place through engagement in discussions with the project staff about the issues that scholars are being exposed to. On a personal level, scholars will grow through self- reflection, self-awareness and individual experiences.
Creating Global Citizens
It is a journey of self-discovery that we believe helps to create better, more aware citizens. This is beneficial to so many more people than just the individual awarded the scholarship. It is beneficial to the people they will encounter and be assisting in the field, as well as a diverse number of stakeholders in their local communities- their peers, family members, teachers and future employees.
These programs show young people that the world is so much bigger than they imagined, with so many people who are in situations more difficult than their own. It helps scholars become more empathetic, more outward looking and more aware. The program will teach these students that they can carry on developing the skills that they need to carry on making a difference, as well as why it is important to be a global citizen.
In short, the skills developed, the experiences and people exposed to and the personal growth that is inevitable will impact these students for the rest of their lives.
Thank you for your continued support!
With Gratitude
