Making life better for teenage mothers

All gratitude to our donors,we are making progress

Rebecca is a resilient lady born and bred in Apredi, a deprived community in the eastern Region of Ghana notable for its high teenage pregnancies and its influx of people from outside the community for funeral gatherings.

In Apredi, poverty and peer pressure remain the main cause of teenage pregnancies and school drop-outs.  Rebecca was one of the many girls whose dreams of reaching secondary level was short-lived when she was impregnated by her boyfriend at the age of 16.

“ Every girl in my school had a boyfriend except me, so when my boyfriend proposed love relationship to me, I accepted.”

The unplanned pregnancy only worsened her current situation , deserted by her baby daddy,  she was forced by the hand of fate to single handedly take care of her child.

“When I told my boyfriend I was pregnant, he told me he was going to the city to look for a job, and till today I have never set eyes on him. Life was very difficult for me, I did not have the skills nor a job to fend for myself. As a result, I had to leave school and for 9 months I could not visit the hospital because I could not afford antenatal care”.

Today, Rebecca is confident and makes money from craft making through trainings from Dels Foundation, owing to support from our lovely donors

“Now I can make fascinators and sell for people getting married, due to this, I  can take care of myself and my two children. I have learnt a lot from Dels foundation and I feel very confident with this new skill set that I have. Thank you donors"
