Dear friends,
This period's report covers from February 20, 2021 to June 19, 2021, and it includes activities that highlight Germinating Every Mind-Liberia and partners’ efforts to educate girls in a holistic form as we create more access to education and financial inclusion.
We completed our first semester of the school year on May 20, 2021 and resumed the second semester on May 31, 2021. The four highest scoring girls received an 93%-96% average score for the semester and were promoted to the next grade. The Jennifer Albee Enrichment School celebrated its gala anniversary, commemorating the program with a Thanksgiving service, community service, Color House & Sports Day, African Costume Day, and a Spelling Bee Competition and Career Day. It was a full week of fun and educational activities for the students and their parents!
Thanksgiving Day-May 9: We visited the God's Favor Fire Ministry and gave praises to God for gifting the school to the children of Barnersville. Following the service in the morning, we had our queen contest to name our Miss Jennifer Albee Enrichment School. Caroline, a second grade student, won as the title of Miss Jennifer Albee while Olivia of the kindergarten section and Dorcas of the third grade class emerged as first runner up and 2nd runner up, respectively.
Community Service--May 10, 2021, Kebbah Community witnessed its first student community service program. The program was an initiative that gave the students the sense of volunteerism and participation in community development. The students were excited to have a first experience of such activity. The service day included grass cutting, painting of the Commissioner's office and cleaning of the entire yard of the town hall. The Commissioner of the Township of Barnersville, Commissioner Howe, and his team expressed their gratitude to the school for such an endeavor and further noted that it was the first of its kind for a secondary school to undertake a community service. He pleaded with the school to continue to cultivate the habit of volunteerism in the students and also expressed his hope that other schools would follow the examples.
Color House and Sports Day- May 11, Students dressed according to the color that each student selected through a raffle draw. They participated in games such as eating contest, sack race, chair dance, dancing competition and others to climax the day.
African Costume Day May 12: Students wore attire according to their tribal backgrounds. Each of them was given the time to exhibit their dresses before judges and greet the audience in their various vernaculars. The best dresses and performances were awarded prices.
Career and Spelling Bee May 13: Career and Spelling Bee day was successfully graced by students from other schools and parents of our students. On this day, the students were allowed to dress according to the careers they are determined to strive for. Among the careers were aspiring doctors, teachers, engineers, lawyers, pilots, military personnel, drivers, and bankers/accountants.
Following the career activities, we launched into our Spelling Bee contest with student Hannah emerging as winner of the Bee. She was given a one-year scholarship for 2022 school year as she won the crown as “Queen Bee”.
Commencing the second semester, we were fortunate to register three new students. We also renewed the annual rent payment for the building, which has allowed for the construction of a fence around the building to increase students' safety.
Germinating Every Mind-Liberia and the Jennifer Albee Enrichment School are grateful to all of our donors and the GlobalGiving Family for affording the girls of Liberia to have access to acquiring quality education.
