Thank you so much for your support of this vital project to help protect the lives of students and teachers at school from COVID-19. Right now, the news in Kenya is that case numbers of COVID-19 are on the rise and mandatory use of facemasks indoors has returned. The need to keep protecting schools making sure they have enough soap and access to water is vital and your support in making it happen is greatly appreciated.
The Kenyan school year runs from January through to December so children are still at school and working harder than ever to make up for the time lost last year during school closures. Our healthy schools programme is now running in 339 schools and handwashing facilities are set up at strategic points of the school compound such as toilets and classrooms encouraging regular handwashing and helping prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The healthy schools programme is about providing the soap, water tanks, better toilets that will create a safe and healthy school environment. It’s also about educating children who are becoming advocates for disease prevention and control at home and in their community by talking to others about how to prevent the spread of viruses.
This month marked World Environment Day and the schools were involved in tree planting at their schools to improve the environment. Trees were distributed for planting across the schools and some of the schools took part in clean ups of their local markets even on a Saturday. These students are very committed to a clean and healthy environment!
Thank you for your part in making all of this a reality. Please feel welcome to share among your friends and family and help reach more schools and keep more students and teachers safe and well.
