Thank you for donating to support schools in rural Kenya to be a clean, safe and healthy place for children to learn and play. In this report we share some news of what the activities the children have been involved in.
This month, 24 Schools involved in the Health Schools programme took part in activities to mark Global Handwashing Day on October 15th. School management, teachers, parents and students took part in demonstrating best use of tippy tappys in the school and correct handwashing practice. As COVID-19 is still in the community, handwashing remains the first line of defence and this was the perfect opportunity for children to practice their handwashing and be reminded of how important it is.
Handwashing wouldn’t be possible without water tanks, handwashing stations and toilet blocks. Ebenezer is a 13-year-old boy who attends Chepkendi Primary School. His schools is involved in the Healthy Schools programme and Brighter Communities Worldwide partnered with them to install a water tank in 2019 and boys’ washrooms in 2022. The school had no potential water source and so in this case the water tank provided the water storage required for the washrooms. The projects have resulted in improved school retention and a reduction in waterborne diseases through improved hygiene.
Part of the healthy schools programme is for children to take what they learn and bring it to the community. This was done by one healthy school club through a town clean up. A great way to lead by example and encourage everyone in the town to pick up rubbish and create and clean and healthy environment.
If you would like to support this project again, then Giving Tuesday on November 29th is the date to mark in your calendar. On this day GlobalGiving is giving away $1.2million to non-profits around the world as part of their #MoveAMillion campaign. The more donations we raise over 24 hours on Giving Tuesday the more money we earn in bonus funds from GlobalGving.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
If you donate to this project or have donated to this project, you can receive an email when this project posts a report. You can also subscribe for reports without donating.
