Thank you for your generous financial support to Undikumbukire Project Zambia (UP Zambia) for our 10 years anniversary in the child justice system in Zambia. It made a significant impact to a total number of 349 children during the cold season.
As winter set in across Zambia, the cold nights are particularly harsh for children in detention. Without adequate clothing and warmth, these children face not only physical discomfort but also emotional and psychological strain. The low temperatures and dark nights can amplify feelings of isolation and despair. From June 28th to July 2nd, 2024, the UP Zambia team, in collaboration with Baylor Law students, engaged in various activities at the Lusaka Remand Correctional Facility, Katombora Child Reformatory School, Nakambala Child Approved School, and Livingstone Central Correctional Facility. This winter, UP Zambia with your support celebrated its 10th anniversary by reaching out to correctional facilities in Lusaka and Southern Province.
Our goal was to provide warmth and comfort to 500 children. With your support, we were able to make a significant impact to the following correctional facilities with food, hoodies and a pair of socks for each child: Lusaka Remand Correctional Facility- 121 children , Nakambala Approved School- 65 children, Katombora Reformatory School- 145 , Livingstone Central Correctional Facility Female- 1, Livingstone Central Correctional Facility Male- 17.
During our visits, the children engaged in dances and songs, played football and basketball, and enjoyed board games. These activities provided a much-needed break from their daily routines and allowed them to experience joy and companionship.
Your contributions went beyond providing physical warmth; they reinforced UP Zambia's mission to ensure that every child in conflict with the law is seen, heard, and given a fair chance at justice and rehabilitation.
Thank you for standing with us and making a meaningful impact on the lives of children in detention.
