It has been a busy July quarter at the New Hope Children’s hostel. We recently had 3 volunteers from Germany assist our hostel during their stay.
Having volunteers to support what we do in the community is very important as they bring new skills and ideas but equally this experience is also rewarding for them.
Marie she shares her recent experience when she volunteered at the hostel.
Be the change…. you want to see in the world.
“I felt the need to help children in Africa, experience a different culture and environment as well as broaden my horizon.
Everyone at Kawempe Home Care welcomed us with such love and hospitality. We became a family.
Josy, Laurie and I showed the children new games from Germany and tried to distract them from their pain during the day. We danced, played football games, cards, Jenga, and board games. Also, I was assisting Kawempe Home Care with their social media accounts and implement a social campaign to raise awareness for this important project.
The children want to learn and enjoy trying new things. The children gave me so much love and joy which I will never forget in my life. These children mainly come from the poor rural areas and are very sick with their cancer, feeling weak on some days, and in pain, most of time, but these children have so much love inside.
You experience something very special because after volunteering at KHC you will not be the same again. If you see the happiness of those sick children, you appreciate life more than ever and see how blessed you are and you will feel peace.
My advice to anyone considering volunteering? JUST DO IT!”
Marie Sophie Baier, Volunteer.
We would love to welcome you and show you personally how your support makes a difference to so many people’s lives.
Update:
This quarter (July/August/Sept) we raised US$3,058.04 mainly due to the two GlobalGiving campaigns ran during the quarter. However, we are very grateful to our 5 hard core supporters who provide monthly donations, and this is extremely helpful for the hostel as it relies on these continuing donations help fund the food for the hostel.
During this quarter 98 children and their caregivers were cared for at the hostel. We are pleased to report that 3 children completed their treatment session and were allowed home until their next appointment.
Sadly 7 children passed away during this time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families.
Thank you for supporting the families who are going through a tough time.
