Training on water care, environmental protection, and hygiene

By Luisa Ramos | CEO

Since 2022, with the aim of creating communities resilient to climate change, we have initiated training on water care, environmental protection, and hygiene for all members of families benefiting from rainwater harvesting. For us, these training sessions are fundamental to improving the quality of life and preserving the natural environment. They seek to empower communities with practical knowledge and skills to manage and conserve water resources, protect biodiversity, and maintain adequate hygiene conditions.

**Water Care:** The Sierra Tarahumara faces significant challenges regarding water access and quality. The training focuses on rainwater harvesting techniques, conservation of water sources, and efficient irrigation practices. It also promotes the use of homemade filters and the protection of rivers and springs to ensure a clean and sustainable water supply.

**Environment:** Environmental training addresses the importance of biodiversity and forest conservation, which are crucial for the region's ecological balance. It includes teaching reforestation practices, sustainable management of natural resources, and the creation of protected areas. Recycling and waste reduction, as well as education on the effects of climate change, are also encouraged.

**Hygiene:** Promoting hygiene is vital to prevent diseases and improve community health. Training covers topics such as the importance of handwashing, safe waste management, the construction and maintenance of latrines, and personal hygiene. It also addresses sanitation practices and the prevention of waterborne diseases.

We aim to create lasting change through education and community participation. Through these training sessions, local capacities are strengthened, and sustainable development is promoted, benefiting both the people and the environment in the Sierra Tarahumara.
