Thank you so much for your support of this project. Right now, the news in Kenya is that case numbers of COVID-19 are on the rise and mandatory use of facemasks indoors has returned. Further restrictions are bound to follow. Each wave causes more disruption to people trying to earn a living, the war in Ukraine is impacting prices of every day items globally and in Kenya they are spiralling - for example, a kilo of flour cost 80kes in January and is now costing 200kes. Add climate change and it's impact on crops this year and there is a perfect storm of COVID-19, conflict and climate change threatening lives and livelihoods in Kericho county. Your support of this project is so vital and very much appreciated.
So far this year, 20 business training courses have been delivered to 20 income generating groups which included 169 youths.
Resources to set up income generating activities have been issued to each of the groups and these included coffee plant seeds, tree nursery tools, goats, sheep, chickens and safety clothing for bee keeping. 325 people from the 20 groups trained benefit from the resources including 185 youths.
8 were held with 188 participants including 43 youths and these meetings provide the following -
One business follow up meeting was completed with 16 people participating including 5 youths. There are 19 more planned to take place. Follow up is very important to track the impact of the training delivered, see progress of the income generating project, take feedback from those involved, consider challenges and possible solutions, lean about the benefits to the community, plan for the future, take new requests from the community.
Members of the groups say -
“The Income Generating resources support to the group was a very brilliant idea, the supported groups now have income” Sharon
“Many groups have learned that team work and good planning makes a business viable, thanks to Brighter Communities worldwide for bring Business training to our community” Robert
