Give 2000 Egyptian Families Affordable Health Care

Between the current healthcare insurance system which is not covering any unemployed citizen and the new Universal Healthcare Coverage implemented recently in Egypt to be fully active by 2030, the situation of elderly care in Egypt is critical, especially for those who are suffering from chronic diseases, cancer, Alzheimer's, etc.

Ashraf, a 58-year-old man living with his sister, who is 60 years old, is suffering from lung cancer and needs up to 30 chemotherapy sessions. This little family is living below the poverty line with low income and depending on donations most of the time; they cannot afford chemotherapy out of the insurance system, which cannot cover, in turn, the expenses of Ahsraf’s treatment as he is considered elderly. Also, he was on a long waiting list, although his condition is very critical. So, his treatment falls under “on the expenses of the state'; which extensively takes time and effort to have an approval to get the treatment. When Ashraf’s sister knew about us, offering the required help and support for patients to get their rights in the healthcare system, she was almost going to sell the furniture of the house and what was left of her jewelry.

For 4 months, with a lot of back and forth with the governmental entities, dealing with the bureaucracy of the requirements to secure the treatment of Ashraf on the expenses of the state, El Naseh team succeeded in saving 83,550 Egyptian pounds for this family by finalizing all the required documents so Ahsraf can receive the full treatment on the expenses of the state. Finally, Ashraf was able to receive his chemotherapy sessions fully covered by the expenses of the state.

Now that Ashraf’s condition is stable, he is receiving regular chemotherapy sessions, and his sister shared with el Naseh team: “I did everything, and I didn't know what else to do. I was witnessing the slow death of my brother and was hopeless. I sold everything, and without you and your help, I could’ve sold everything  else. I had to save my brother, and still, it wasn’t going to be enough.”
