Academic Mentoring Services

Zach
Zach

Please allow us to introduce you to Zach.  Zach is one of our local students who came to us for academic enrichment. Zach's mother is single parent without a system in place to help with tutoring. She reached out hoping to find support and found The Carrot Project.  Being a single mom she did not have the means to provide additional services out of school for Zach.  Zach was having difficulty in his ability to reach grade-level goals for reading and comprehension.  Coming to The Carrot Project he has been able to level his reading skills, gain on his word development and appreciate other forms of reading such as poetry as well as creative writing.  Since our services are free to those who apply, Zachary's mother has had one less burden to worry about.  With our generous donors, we have been able to keep Zachary enrolled not only for school year tutoring and enrichment but we have been able to extend those services for the summer months. Zachary has developed a love of reading, writing and creative explanations.  We are currently working on this first book writing with illustration.  The gift of education is priceless.  When we allow education to be a right, everyone wins.  Thank you again to all of our supporters.

We will be posting updates and success stories on our Facebook page.  Make sure to follow us.

Here is a little information on our Tutoring program (Academic Mentoring)

The Carrot Project has a unique approach to our Academic Mentoring (aka tutoring) program.  We are a guide in the educational process for each student.  Our Tutors/Coaches work directly with the student's formal educators.  We guide, we do not instruct.  We help find creative ways to help bring a different interruption of the material. .  We help with basic classroom lessons (math, reading, writing, test prep etc).  We rely on our formal educators to give feedback on the work done at our center.  This collaboration with the formal educators gives an advancing direction toward success.

Goals:  To Support youth in managing their on learning in order to maximize their limitless potential   *   To develop lifelong skills for [the student] their future   *  Help improve their cognitive performance.

We believe that it is extremely important to have full cooperation with other educators involved with the student's success.  We have developed a key component to our program that involves that cooperation.  Once we receive this information an initial interview with the student and parent/guardian will be arranged.

Once the child and parent have been interviewed, accepted and schedule first appointment they will be required to fill out and accept our code of conduct policy form.  Our system works because of the rules in place, and violation of such rules will result in denial of services.

Once the program has begun, communication with current educators and parents will be made on a weekly basis so that redirection or corrections in instruction can be made.

If you are a parent interested in having free Academic Mentoring for your child - please request the application.  No time like the present to help build the solid foundation each child needs.
