Project Report | Mar 30, 2021
Work Accomplished!

By Kelly Brantner | CEO

The Transformed School Grounds
The Transformed School Grounds

In a little over one year, we've witnessed the transformation of the bare school grounds at NY DINA College into gardens that feed the students plus provide important skills training and a revenue stream for the school's operations through the sale of produce.

The rain was slow to come this growing season, but it did finally arrive so the collection wells for capturing the rainwater are now full and the plants are growing.

In total, 275 trees have been planted with 50% fruit trees and 50% for soil protection and biomass, and the remaining designated school grounds are now growing a diverse range of vegetables.

While our project mission has been accomplished, the local agronomists are committed to continuing to follow up and support the health and growth of the gardens. They'll work with the students and school team through the various seasons to help them understand what is needed to prepare the soil for the next season as well as the importance of crop rotation and crop planning.

In addition, the local team will support the school to find a marketplace to sell the surplus produce. This new source of revenue is a huge step forward in being able to achieve their bigger goal of being self-sustaining.

While this is our last project report, individuals can keep updated on any news we receive from Madagascar through our Facebook page which can be viewed and followed by clicking here

On behalf of the team in Madagascar and NY DINA College, we want to thank all of donors for their contributions to this project.  We are truly grateful for the support received from around the world to help improve not only the lives of the students but their families and their community.

Thank you and our best wishes to all!
