Dear Friend,

We hope that this update finds you and your loved ones well as 2020 continues to bring new challenges to our daily lives across the globe.

Since our last update, The Solidarity Project has worked closely with our partner communities and their leaders in response to emergent needs identified during the long economic shutdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic reaching Honduras in mid-March of this year. As in many places in the world, Honduras ground to a halt and implemented a strict economic lockdown– despite being effective to contain the virus this measure has been devastating to the economy and many people have lost jobs, income, and an overall sense of security. Community Leaders in our partner communities identified the need to ensure short-term food security and looked for our partnership to support families during this time.

In response to this, The Solidarity Project coordinated a project working with sixty-four Community Leaders across seven rural communities to organize, buy and distribute 260 emergency food rations to the families most affected by the Covid-19 lockdown. We distributed over 300 packets including seeds and a guide on sustainable family gardening practices to support families in the production of basic vegetables from their homes. The Solidarity project also bought over 90% of the food rations from small farmers and business owners in our partner communities to support increase our local impact during these trying times.

As the pandemic has challenged our initial model of work, we been busy adapting our Community Micro-Grant Events to be Covid-19 conducive and effective for next year. As the global crisis continues, The Solidarity project will remain committed to supporting talented local leaders, fostering engagement, and sharing the stories of solidarity and resiliency that are seen throughout the rural communities in Honduras. We look forward to finding new ways to support our partners during this time and sharing that news with you.

Thank you for your continued support. It is so deeply appreciated and needed in such challenging times.

Stay Safe & Take Care,
