2023 Third Trimestre MH Nutrition Project

Dear donor,
we would like to express our most profound and sincere gratitude for all your contributions. Due to the help awarded by each and every one of you, the Mision Huascaran Nutrition Program continues to thrive and expand. Our country Peru is going through some interesting times, but with unity and commitment we are confident we will overcome all future challenges.
Nutrition Program Progress Report up to September 2023:
- In July we donated 200 eco stainless stell bottles to 200 high school children, so that they too can enjoy drinking clean water at their school, thanks the the Clean Water Project of Mision Huascaran. Water born parasites are an important co-factor in the battle against anemia.
- In august and september the MH nutrition team held demonstrative sesions benefiting 41 people, furthermore the team participated in 10 free community healthcare campaigns, giving nutritional advice to over 100 people, as well as visiting 136 Andean household, to do follow up visits and check in and upon the beneficiaries of our nutrition project.
- In betweeen july and september 2023, we handed out 6 tonnes of frozen nutrient rich fish, and thousands of milk products, thanks to the generous donation of private companies.
- The Anti Anemia Bakery, backed almost 90.000 breadrolls,helping amost 600 beneficiaries overcome this innecesary health condition.
- The hens from the solidary hen houses produced 3000 freerange eggs, allowing for 70 high andes school children can enjoy a nutritous egg a day from monday to friday, provinding them with amongst other 7 grams of high quality protein.
- All together in the reporting period, the various community related activities of the MH nutrition programa, interacted with and benefitted over 5.000 community members.

Nutrition Program Progress Report up to June 2023
Nutrition improvements
- Since May 2022, our anti-anemia bakery has produced 417.000 iron-enriched bread rolls to feed +570 children and pregnant women from Huashcao, Canchapampa, Congar, Punyan, Amashca and Pariaqaqa villages
- Milk and fish distribution have continued on a monthly basis, handing out 2 tons of frozen fish on each occasion. Till June 2023, almost 10 thousand milk products were also handed out by Mision Huascaran
- The anti anemia bakery was full of innovative inspiration and two new iron rich bread rolls were created, much needed new flavours were added to fulfil the expectations of our treated population. We have found that a child´s taste buds are amongst the most demanding in the market.
- The egg laying hen project at the Pariaqaqa school, produced over 7.000 free-range eggs up to June 2023. 70 school going children had an additional daily boiled egg for lunch. Each egg provides invaluable nutrients for the childrens physical development. As such, the project is improving the protein intake of the children, providing 6 grams of additional protein and all essential amino-acids.
- Our nutrititionists participated in 7 healhcare campaigns, holding 53 nutritional advisory sessions.
- Our bakers were trained in the Best Practices of Manufactoring (BPM), to segure a high quality and safe bread for our beneficiaries consuming the bread on a daily basis.

Due to the support given by each one of you, Mision Huascaran´s Nutrition Program continues to thrive and expand. Peru is going through some challenging times, but with unity and commitment we are confident we will overcome all future challenges.
Nutrition Program Progress Report up to March 2023
- From january to march, our anti-anemia bakery has produced 48.000 iron-enriched bread rolls to feed +570 children and pregnant women from Huashcao, Canchapampa, Congar, Punyan, Amashca and Pariaqaqa
- Milk distribution, hemoglobin screening and nutrition evaluation were performed to the whole target population in March. After summer break, anemia numbers were slightly up, but we are confident we will be able to lower them in the next couple of school months.
- The egg laying hen project at the Pariaqaqa school, produced +3.000 free-range eggs in the first three months of 2023. 70 school going children had an additional daily boiled egg for lunch. Each egg provides invaluable nutrients for the childrens physical development.
- At the end of the first trimester the school vegetable gardens were planted in anticipation of the 2024 harvest. Thanks to an alliance with Qaliwarma, these vegetables were integrated in the school lunch program. Making the school lunchs a lot more nutritious.
- In 2023, in total 22 tons of frozen fish will be distributed in various communities such as: Cachopampa, Cruzcoto, Huayapon, Shoropunta, Armapampa, Mamapampa, Ushno, Yauyo, Queruran, Poncos communities, benefiting more than 11,000 families thanks to the donation of the fishery companies Pesquera Diamante and Pesquera Exalmar. In march 2023, 2 tons were given to the populations.
- Furthermore, more than 33.000 fortified milk products were kindly donated by the Grupo Gloria company, these will be destined to give additional nutrition to young mothers and their babies.
- Other interesting and important statistics about the program are: +300 house calls made, 85 organic gardens installed and harvested, +150 benefitted from various workshops, talks and demonstration sessions realized throughout the trimester, the training of the 16 Guiding mother, leaders within their communities, trained and empowered to lead by example in their local communities.
- Also in January thanks to the Fluye Bottle company, 300 extra ecological drinking bottles were handed out in the project impact zone, expanding the impact of the Clean Water Project, implemented at the end of 2022.
