Dear donor,
we would like to express our most profound and sincere gratitude for all your contributions. Due to the help awarded by each and every one of you, the Mision Huascaran Nutrition Program continues to thrive and expand. Our country Peru is going through some interesting times, but with unity and commitment we are confident we will overcome all future challenges.
Nutrition Program Progress Report up to December 2022
- Since May 2022, our anti-anemia bakery has produced 276.000 iron-enriched bread rolls to feed +630 children and pregnant women from Utupampa, Huashcao, Canchapampa, Congar, Punyan, Amashca, Pariaqaqa and Yanarumi towns
- Milk distribution, hemoglobin screening and nutrition evaluation were performed to the whole target population in November. We are delighted to share the outcome of this screening.
- We can proudly state, that after four years of relentless work, we have managed to reduce the prevalence of anemia in our target population from 44% in 2019 to ´only´ 3% at the end of 2022. A total reduction of 41%. An unmatched result in all of Peru, no other anti-anemia project has delivered such profound results.
- The egg laying hen project at the Pariaqaqa school, produced almost 20.000 free-range eggs in 2022. 70 school going children had an additional daily boiled egg for lunch. Each egg provides invaluable nutrients for the childrens physical development. As such, the project is improving the protein intake of the children, providing 6 grams of additional protein and all essential amino-acids.
- All through the fourth trimestre the crops were harvested from the organic school and house gardens. Thanks to an alliance with Qaliwarma, these vegetables were integrated in the school lunch program. Making the school lunch a lot more nutritious.
- In 2022, in total 15 tons of frozen fish were distributed in various communities such as: Cachopampa, Utupampa, Cruzcoto, Huayapon, Shoropunta, Pisca, Armapampa, Mamapampa, Ushno, Yauyo, Queruran, Poncos communities, benefiting more than 8,000 families thanks to the donation of the fishery companies Pesquera Diamante and Pesquera Exalmar.
- Furthermore, more than 17.000 tins of milk were handed out amongst the rural population within our project zone thank to the company Grupo Gloria
- Other interesting and important statistics about the program are: +300 house calls made, 85 organic gardens installed and harvested, +80 workshops, talks and demonstration sessions realized throughout the year, 16 Guiding mother, leaders within their communities, trained and empowered to lead by example in their local communities.
To continue expandingour reach, we require all the help you can give – utilizing the GlobalGiving platform. The world continuously makes us face great challenges for our societies; and the children are the light and hope at the end of the tunnel for a bright future.
We thank you for all the help you’ve given and will continue to give in the future.
