By David Smith | FSEA Board President 2018-2019
Hello Friends of FSEA,
The start of 2018 has been a very exciting time for our Alliance. A new year is full of new possibilities and challenges and we enter it as an energized maturing organization with ever more capacity and determination to support our core idea - a Moldovan economy that is prosperous, fair and free.
Last November we hosted FSEA's first official General Meeting of Members. This was a time for the Executive Team to report officially on the work of the organization over the preceding year and to lay out a direction forward for the members. The most important part of this meeting was the election of new Board Members where Anna Ganenco or Moore Stevens and Mihai Bologan of iData were elected to 3 year Board terms. This increases our Board Membership to 5 and adds two Moldovan voices on the Board. Following their election the Board chose to create the following officer structure for 2018 and elected from amongst their number to the offices of the year.
President of the Board - David Smith
Vice President of Membership - Mihai Bologan
Treasurer - Anna Ganenco
Member at Large - Matt Rutter
Member at Large - Kelsey Walters
While such bureaucracies often seem a side note or even distraction compared to the mission we aspire to the reality is that these are key achievements. Membership-run associations such as FSEA are in essence little experiments in Democracy. Many people representing a wide range of motivations, aspirations, challenges and hopes come together in support of common interest and in search of community. Such a community is far more unwieldy than a private foundation, NGO or International Development Agency when it comes to decision making, priority creation and organizing for meaningful change and impact. But, in time, they are more powerful. This is the paradox of democratic institutions - large and small. They are difficult to organize and fraught with many challenges but they are also greater than the sum of their parts. In FSEA we know our companies are strong individually, but we also know that we are #StrongerTogether. This transition of leadership had proved our community’s strength and our movement into this new year will show the determination of our community to move forward together.
As we work together in our new Executive Team on a strategy for the coming year we are focused on creating various channels of financial stability for our Alliance. We are working with consultants on finding best practices for non-dues fundraising, and we are coordinating with donor organizations to see where our priorities align. As of now though we remain heavily reliant on donations through this site to supplement our growing, but insufficient, flow of member dues. Thank you again for your generosity in your support of FSEA and thank you for any continued support you can give us, be it a $10 donation or volunteering your time and advice as many of you have.
Thank you all,
