Exciting things have been happening at the Mushroom Theatre as, on 19th February 2023, a new performing arts studio was opened by Lee Mead, called the McKellan Theatre. Named after the actor, Ian McKellan, who chose The Mushroom Theatre Company as one of his 10 theatre donations celebrating his 80th birthday. This tour raised £3 million with profits going to 10 charities.
The Equal People Performing Arts Charity have been receiving donations from Westcliff Rotary via our Crowdfunding campaign for a number of years and the funds have enabled the development of the new fully exclusive theatre, which enables both disabled and non disabled children to take part in performing arts.
Their next project is to construct retractable seating to enable children to perform in an almost theatre like environment.
Without these donations, the Mushroom Theatre would find it very difficult to achieve its goals.
