Next time I'll come again.~A case story .

By Chao-yi LEE | Project leader

"Next time I will come again!"

Tim said in the roller skates class happily.

At his early young age, Tim was found developmental delay in all aspects. Even when he went to preschool, people always saw a towel in front of his chest due to drooling was still there. He looked so different from other kids. Some kid would laughed at him often and so he withdrew with low confidence.

Tim looked very thin, his body movements were very slow and uncoordinated. Of course, he fell down frequently. When he was 5 years old, His parents worried a lot and tried to let him join activity intervention groups including clay activity, percussions group, tai drum group and roller skates group in our association. At the beginning, he couldn`t catch up with. But his parents still insisted on attending parent-child therapeutic activity group every Saturday for more than six months. And they found Tim's physical fitness improved and saw his potential. Tim likes to go to classes more and more now.

At first, he dressed roller skates to walk very carefully and slowly. The coach continued to encourage him to raise his feet up and stride forward. Tim followed and spent a lot of time practicing. He was getting more and more stable and not afraid to fall down now. Now he can circle the court several times by himself, and the speed is getting faster and faster.

Once his mother asked, " Do you want to continue the classes?" Tim spoked slowly and not fluently. "Yes! I like them very much. I think I am getting better and better. I can have fun with my classmates at school!" Tim’s parents found his progress, and so did school teachers!

Now Tim has become more confident! It took him one and a half year to practice movements and balance, and he would not fall down while walking now. Also, the problems of writing, concentration, and drooling have improved. There is no need to hang a towel in the chest, and the clothes will not be wet. There is a significant improvement in oral expression. Parents are very pleased. In addition to parent-child therapeutic courses, the association also offers parenting groups to empower them to connect and support those family.

Tim’s mother said: "Now I feel I am not alone. Both adults and children could make friends here! Tim likes to stay in groups. He feels very happy when he comes to classes! These activities and family groups really help our family a lot."
