Special Hope Network was able to launch our 6th Community Care Center in Lusaka, Zambia. We have understood the need in Lusaka to work with children with intellectual disabilities but the opening of this new center in the Matero Compound only highlighted this need. Within 6 weeks of opening the center we had all 65 slots for children filled plus their caregiver. We are now working with 130 people at this center and by extension their families that average around 8. In total now through Special Hope Network we are working with 780 children with intellectual disabilities and caregivers in Lusaka. The impact this is making with their families and communities are remarkable.
Here are stories from some of the parents who have been coming to our new Center:
“Hello, My name is Bridget and my child's name is Grace aged 3 years 10 months living with Down Syndrome. I heard about Special Hope Network Matero Community Care Center from a friend who was enrolled in the program for about a month. She mentioned of how good the program and the support she was receiving. I decided to join the program, I was happy and encouraged with the safe, nurturing, inspiring and supportive learning environment. I wouldn't have asked for a better school for my child and I feel lucky and blessed to be part of the Special Hope Network Matero Community Care Center. I always look forward to come to school and I am thankful for the program.”
“I heard about Special Hope and when I inquired about getting my daughter into one of the Community Care Centers we found out it was too far away. So we are really excited about the Matero CCC as it is close enough for my daughter to attend with her mother. We are glad Special Hope is here.” -- Dad whose daughter has global delay.
Thank you for your continued support as we create a world for children with intellectual disabilties!
