Thank you for your generous donation to the Nigeria Flood Relief Fund. Donations to this GlobalGiving Fund are already making a difference, helping to provide immediate relief to those affected by the severe flooding in northeastern Borno state.

Your generous contributions to the Nigeria Flood Relief Fund have supported several grants to high-impact, community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis. These grants are helping to provide emergency shelter, food, and clean water to families displaced by the floodwaters, which have forced around 200,000 people from their homes and tragically claimed at least 30 lives.

The region was already dealing with heightened food and nutrition insecurity when the floods struck. With more than one million people affected, and Borno already experiencing ongoing violence and displacement due to insurgency from violent groups, this flooding underscores the interconnection between conflict and climate vulnerability. Your support is especially crucial in this time of layered crises, and we remain committed to making a sustainable impact.

Thank you for standing with the people of northeastern Nigeria during this urgent time.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Humanity and Community Development Foundation is a long-time GlobalGiving partner in Nigeria focused  on providing emergency food supplies and temporary shelter to affected communities in Gummi and Borno.
  • Future Resilience and Development Foundation is based in Nigeria, where they deliver emergency food aid and run outpatient therapeutic nutrition programs in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri, assisting both the local community and those severely impacted by the floods.
  • Rural Watch Africa Initiative (RUWAI) is sending food supplies and blankets to the Borno region, while also working to support the recovery of agricultural livelihoods.

Your generous support of the GlobalGiving 2024 Nigeria Flood Relief Fund empowers community-led efforts, ensuring that people in Borno and surrounding areas receive the essential resources they need to rebuild.

With gratitude,

Irene + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
