One trash bag at a time...

By Heidi Webb | Development Specialist

The pandemic has been hard on everyone, including children and their families.  Experts are predicting a drastic rise in the number of children entering the foster care system in the coming months. There are children who may have endured hunger and neglect for the past 6-12 months or who have been in other unhealthy situations, that up until now went unnoticed due to the stay-at-home orders still in effect in some states across the country. The reason for this is because critical institutions, like schools, social services and community programs, that served as some kids' only safety net no longer have the ability to catch them.

In addition to our signature Comfort Cases, we offer Comfort XL duffel bags which also replace the need for trash bags for children entering foster care. The Comfort XL is a 32-inch duffel bag that folds up to easily fit on an office shelf, in a desk drawer, or in the trunk of a car.

Our goal in creating the Comfort XL option is so that every social worker and police officer in the country can easily have a supply of Comfort XL duffel bags on hand to give to children when they are removed from their homes. Our Comfort XL duffels are packaged in boxes of 25, and each agency can order up to 2 boxes per month.

There has already been a recent uptick in requests for Comfort XL's which is why we wanted to reach out again and say THANK YOU.  By donating to our GlobalGiving "No More Trash Bags" campaign you are serving as a change agent.

"No More Trash Bags" is our mantra and if enough good humans like you join us in living this truth, we can truly create change the foster care system experience for children. As we know you agree, a trash bag is not a suitable form of luggage for a child.

Since we launched this campaign on the GlobalGiving platform, we have distributed 973 Comfort XL's, so we are going to keep going!  In February, we have already distributed 525 orders. The orders do not stop coming in, so your on-going support is greatly appreciated.

If you live in the Rockville, Maryland area or are in town for a visit, please connect with us at the Center and see your investment dollars at work.

Thank you!
