Greetings from the Asherah Foundation!
Do you remember Thalia, Sahra, and Noura? Not too long ago you generously donated money for their education. We are now happy to tell you that thanks to your support, our fundraiser successfully graduated the Global Giving Accelerator, raising $5,489 and counting. This gives us the opportunity to keep the campaign active for as long as we want to, offering us the chance to help many more women.
Today I plan to talk to you about Thalia, a 29 year old woman from Burundi, who knows that giving up is not an option. Thalia has had a tumultuous life, fighting with poverty ever since the civil war between the Hutsus and the Tutsi broke out in Burundi in 1993. The war exemplified a tremendous material loss and scarcity of opportunities, but also a massive emotional disruption, claiming more than 300,000 innocent lives. Thalia too, experienced severe loss: the war didn’t only take her father and relatives, but also her right leg.
Nevertheless, despite all the obstacles life decided to throw at her, she has fought fiercely for her future. She is now studying Business Administration at the International University of Equator, and with the help of the Asherah Foundation’s scholarship she will be able to continue her studies. You can read her full story here!
Thank you for constantly helping us support women around the world!
