Can I Live’s has recently launched the WEALTHFAIR TOUR with its promises to move One Million Moms OFF Welfare over the next decade. The Tour’s newly wrapped RV is on its way to a city near you, visiting some of the nation's poorest public housing communities in America’s wealthiest cities with a message of hope and accountability.
Joining the Wealthfair Tour is the Ultimate Come-Up Conference– A series of deliberate actions, activities, and behaviors that will reduce poverty in America, once and for all. The Ultimate Come-Up Conference (UCUC) will showcase an effective team purposed for the work of uprooting poverty and its root causes.
The UCUC, topics include training sessions for moms, dads, resident council leaders, resident-owned businesses, Section 8 voucher and FSS program participants educating them on the Power of HUD programs (i.e., RAD, Section 3, Resident Councils, Section 8 Homeownership, Moving to Work, FSS, etc.); And how to leverage them for the Ultimate Come-Up!
In addition to these training sessions for families, The Ultimate Come-Up will offer training for Mission-Driven Landlords; Developers, PHA/Resident Services Staff, FSS/ROSS Service Coordinators, and Elected Officials. Some expected training sessions will cover improved service delivery processes to increase program outcomes, revising policies that keep people poor, and effective strategies for growing the affordable housing stock in America and hosing America’s most vulnerable families.
The Wealthfair Tour’s focus on Public Housing communities comes from the notion that public housing authorities hold America’s largest affordable housing stock and as much of HUD’s portfolio will soon be privatized through programs such as RAD (Rental Assistance Demonstration).
As Section 8 vouchers flood the cities, the supply of decent, safe, and affordable housing is stagnant and not sufficient to meet the demand for new vouchers in the market. During this shift of Wealth in America, it is important that we not lose sight of the least of them in our society. It is also critical that residents are not left out of the conversations about equity, and access. With a pending Build Back Better proposal on the table, this is the time for cities, states, and agencies to collaborate with one goal: To help reduce the economic risk that families face when they become employed. This is our reasonable service as leaders.
We invite you to join us as we triumph over poverty with effective strategies that aid cities, states, and families in overcoming the barriers that obstruct the pathways of prosperity.
