Support for Deaf Children with Hearing Aids

Children living with disabilities living in low-income communities are the most disadvantaged group in Indian society and are more at risk of dropping out of school. As per the India Social Development Report- 2016, there are about 75 million children of primary school age who are out of school, among them one-third are children with disabilities.

Encouraging children with special needs, to online learning during the pandemic turned out to be a big challenge for parents and OSCAR staff. Without hearing aids they lacked the confidence to take part and it was impossible for their families who have very limited income to help.

We are pleased to share that with the love and support of a very special donor, OSCAR provided four children with both visual and hearing impairments with hearing aids. The children underwent a specialist hearing assessment and were fitted with high quality, tailormade aids

It was heart-warming to see the smile on their faces when they realised they could hear for the first time. I am sure you can imagine how much this is helping them in their education and how much it is improving their life and those around them. We continue reaching out to children from the OSCAR Enabling Change project through Zumba and other activities, encouraging them to participate in physical activity.
