"Introducing football into my life through OSCAR has brought me immense joy as I get to both play and learn," says Aman (14), a 4th-grade student at the Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and Deafblind. A beneficiary of Enabling Change, our disability inclusion project, Aman resides with his mother and brother in Navi Mumbai.
Facing challenges due to his hearing and speech impairment, Aman's access to sports was limited until he found OSCAR. Engaging in football sessions tailored for children with disabilities opened up a new world for him, where he not only thrived but also revealed the experience. Always polite and well-mannered, Aman broadened his horizons through life skills, understanding the importance of teamwork in all aspects of life. He now actively assists his mother in the kitchen and with household chores, even lightening her load by bringing groceries home.
Thanks to the support of an individual donor, Aman and his brother Sahil received hearing aids, transforming his ability to hear and communicate. With newfound communication skills, he expresses himself adeptly, his speech improving each day.
Before OSCAR, Aman lacked a clear direction for his future. His newfound passion for sports has driven him to research adaptive athletics, fostering aspirations of becoming a professional athlete alongside his academic pursuits.
