Partnering to emancipate tomorrow's citizens

From early childhood to secondary school, we support children and young people in their schooling. Starting from the child's needs, we work on language development from a very young age and continue with their reading and writing skills. For older children we embrace a wide range of topics such as issues relating to current affairs, adolescence, educational guidance, and so on.

The various workshops offered at SFM always encompass a time for discussion and learning. We feel it is very important to continue offering these opportunities to the children and encourage them to speak to each other and dialogue in a safe environment.

WORKSHOPS WITH DIVERS-IT

Since the start of the year, we have partnered with Divers-IT, to provide several workshops, aimed at raising the children’s awareness on issues related to the increasing use of new technologies.

These workshops involved mostly the older children. They learned the basics of coding, creating a video game, and were given a better understanding of how new technologies consume energy. Two other sessions were devoted one to web security and one to artificial intelligence, how it works, relating to their practice of the internet.

At SFM, we always try to keep abreast of emerging technological trends so that we can encourage best practices, help the children to take a step back, and better understand their environment. Christine, our loyal school support volunteer, was able to take an active part in these workshops.

These rewarding partnerships enable us to offer the most relevant support possible to our teenagers.

WORKSHOPS DURING HOLIDAYS

During the holidays, we regularly offer activities for the children. From the toddlers in the day nursery to the older middle school students, the activities are tailored to their needs.

While the little ones made chocolate/hazelnut spread and scones with their parents, the older ones had a week full of activities.

They could choose between :

- An origami workshop led by Qien, one of our speakers, during which the children discovered the art of folding and created bookmarks in the shape of animals.

- An introductory coding workshop where the younger children learned how to create a game on a computer and found out more about the different jobs involved in creating video games.

- A film making workshop, where Lucien one of our volunteers, took them through the different stages involved in creating a movie. The teenagers wrote a script describing what they liked about SFM and were given an introduction to shooting interviews and close-ups.

- An outing to the Cité des Sciences to discover the ongoing exhibitions, covering a variety of subjects: the prehistoric Chauvet cave, 3D mathematics, sound and its representations, and a visit of the Argonaute, the submarine in the Parc de la Villette.

In conclusion,the partnerships we set up throughout the year enable our young people to discover new activities, new areas of expression and ultimately gives them ideas for their future. From one year to the next, we offer innovative workshops to keep up to date with new technologies and new practices.
