Laxmi’s gentle smile greets the palliative care team visiting her at her home in rural India.
She and her son, and his family, live in a small whitewashed house in Chevalla, a village in Telangana 50 km from the city of Hyderabad. The team is visiting to follow up after her treatment for breast cancer.
Laxmi, unlike many women in South Asia, was fortunate to have her cancer diagnosed early enough for treatment to be effective. The palliative care team check her blood pressure and review her medication while the social worker plays with her granddaughter.
Your support of Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration via GlobalGiving means that healthcare providers are trained in palliative care – it’s specialized care that ensures patients are living without pain, or other symptoms, and supports their families too. It means that patients don’t have to bear the cost of travel from their villages and the loss of income from a day taken away from their farms.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
