The Peace and Co-Existence through rugby work is continuing to grow in Israel, with more schools expected to participate in the future. Each month, there are group rugby sessions attended by children from different communities and religious groups. The children play, win and lose together, building bridges and working as a team. Rugby is a relatively unknown sport in Israel, so all the children start at the same level. Organisers of the co-existence programme hope that the children make friendships that will last for years.
To date, over 160 children from Jewish and Arab schools have taken part in the monthly joint activites. The children play together for 2 hours, creating long-term friendships through the rugby values.
With the support from Atlas, programme leaders have started planning for expansion of the co-existence programme. By September 2022, the programme will be expanded to involve the Jerusalem region as well. By September 2024, there are plans for four to five co-existence programmes to be running across the country.
