It's been exciting to start working with local school children here in Mizque and many of them share our enthusiasm.
Sixty students have recieved an introduction to Permaculture thus far. They have participated in varios techniques including Bokashi composting which is a real hit!
We collect the organic waste from the local food market and put this into 300 litre tanks. We add Bokashi to it and continue to fill the tank with scraps, replacing the lid every time. After a month the Bokashi has bascially pickled all of the contents and produces approximately 50 litres of high quality foliar fertilizer. This is sufficient to fertilize 8 hectares of cultivation.
Our trials with local farmers have produced noticable results including increased yield in tomatoes, corn, onion and alfalfa. If you have access to a lot of organic waste why not consider producing bokashi fertilizer for farmers in your area? Results are visible within 2 days of application.
Many of the students families work in agriculture and with this knowledge could produce their own foliar fertilizer from their kitchen waste. Bokashi can be cultivated very cheaply from rice water and whey. After that all you need is a bucket with a lid.
NEW TECH: Our DIY dehydrator works well (we now have a good stock of dried mushrooms to cook with over the year!). Once the clouds clear we'll introduce how to process dehydrate foods to store or add value to products. Watch this space.
Thanks again for all of your support. If you have questions please feel free to contact us.
Best,
