Rebuilding PHDF School in East Indonesia - Progress Report

By #IAMCHANGE | Happy Hearts Indonesia

Thank you for supporting Happy Hearts Indonesia.

About The School

School Name: Pusat Pendidikan Pelita Harapan Disabilitas Flobamora
Location: Oebobo District, Kupang City, West Timor, East Nusa Tenggara
Number of Teachers: 8
Number of Students: 40
Tuition: Free

School Background

Pelita Harapan Disabilitas Flobamora (PHDF) is currently conducting learning activities and therapies for 40 children with mental or physical disabilities in a rented house. The classrooms are too small and in poor condition. The lack of furniture and other learning facilities is uncomfortable and not a conducive learning environment for the students.

PHDF is in urgent need of safe classrooms as well as proper facilities in order to conduct effective learning activities. Additionally, the existence of a proper school is important in raising awareness on the issue
of education access for children with disabilities in the community.

Support for PHDF

Happy Hearts Indonesia will rebuild the school to consist of classrooms, health unit, toilet, furniture, educational toys, and outdoor playground. We plan to start the rebuilding in July 2019, which will take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

For the next 5 years after the school is rebuilt, Happy Hearts Indonesia will facilitate suitable training programs for teachers of the school to ensure a better quality of education and therapy for the children.

With proper facilities, equipment and training, PHDF will be able to provide better care and education for its students. As the only registered education center for children with disabilities in West Timor, PHDF will also be able to reach and educate more children in the area.

Funds to Rebuild PHDF

Fundraising for the school is still ongoing and we aim to meet the goal by May 2019.

Goal: USD 30,000

Crowdfunding Campaigns

  • #RUNFORCHANGE: USD 20,979
  • GlobalGiving: USD 5,062

Funds Still Needed: USD 3,959
