Get Closer to Their Dreams

By Wang Kaini | Project Leader

"I passed Level C on technician testing!" Dong and other workshop participants proved their hard work and showcased it. "I am ready to reach my next goal: passing the Level B technician certificate testing!" said Dong excitedly and confidently.

Dong's parents divorced when he was little. Since then, Dong's father has had to work three shifts for the household living. The family of four shared a cramped room and had no personal space or alone time. The busy working father had difficulty meeting the demands of child-rearing, which led to the delinquency of Dong's brothers. Dong's father hoped to find a nurturing and learning environment that met Dong's needs, so he asked for help from the church. As a result, Dong lived in the i-ro i-ro Children's Home from ninth grade on.

The woodworking workshop held by i-ro i-ro Children's Home captured Dong's interest in woodworking as he engaged repeatedly with the topic. The church helped in ways needed to enhance Dong's workmanship skills. Dong showed up at the workshop every weekend. He engaged in the construction of projects and the orders taken by the workshop. In order to perfect Dong's craft, The Mustard Seed Mission collaborated with i-ro i-ro Children's Home by providing an empowerment program for Dong to take a Level C certificate class. Dong managed to get a Level C Technician Certificate for woodworking in June and decided to pursue a Class B certified technician.

Having been cared for by i-ro i-ro Children's Home, Dong not only had a stable life but also helped take care of other kids in the Children's Home. In addition, he was a great helper to the pastor's wife.
