So far, our project “Plant Kitchen Gardens for Families in Need in India” has received over 970 donations from people around the world to grow nutritious fruit and vegetable gardens for families in need in the remote, underserved state of Jharkhand, India! We are working with villagers to distribute seeds and plants, install wells and irrigation systems, and teach women and families in-need to tend their own gardens and collaborate with others to increase long-term sustainability.
Mahadev is one of the villagers who has grown a nutritious garden thanks to this project. “Previously, we survived on just rice and lentils. There were no vegetables at home because it was too expensive to purchase them at the market. Now because of the kitchen gardens we have fresh fruits and vegetables in our own backyard! We definitely feel healthier than before.”
The gardens planted by the project are growing in more ways than one. Dhan is one of the people we have helped and inspired to take compassionate action of her own. After participating in our Kitchen Garden program and learning the importance of growing a variety of vegetables for her family, she decided to spread the abundance by helping her neighbors plan and start gardens of their own.
“I want to help other villagers start and enjoy more home-grown vegetables,” Dhan says.
Together, we are not only improving conditions for the short term — we are also planting seeds of altruism that will continue to grow and flourish over time.
Thank you for being a part of this essential project! Active support from people around the world is helping us fight malnourishment, ensure long-term sustainability, and build healthier communities.
Plant a garden and change many lives!
