Project Report | Nov 8, 2021
Near-peer power - young supporting younger

By Caroline Millman | Chairman, PeaceJam UK

Thanks to the generosity of our GlobalGiving donors we now have a team of 20 trained, young professionals and University students able to deliver this new, empowering programme to schools and youth groups both virtually and in person.  Some of this delivery team are members of our PeaceJam UK Youth Leadership Team or PeaceJam Europe Youth Leadership Team.  We are currently delivering the workshops to two Bradford schools in person, which is very exciting and proving to be extremely beneficial to both the school students and the delivery team.  The programme will be helping one of the Bradford schools to develop a team of trained wellbeing ambassadors in their Sixth Form which will allow the programme to be disseminated throughout the school.

The “near-peer” experience continues to work very well, particularly when delivered in-person, but the virtual option is still available, and we continue to approach schools and youth groups across the UK with this opportunity.

Some of the delivery team will also be mentoring young people at our virtual, one-day Slam on Saturday 13 November 2021, when the theme for the day, "Find your voice after lockdown - what matters to me now?" reiterates the messages that our Generation Change project is promoting.  The programme for this event is attached to this report.

Thank you so much for your continued generosity and support, it is really making a difference to young people.  We look forward to sharing more updates during this academic year.
