Repair/restore food producing gardens in Haiti

Project Report | Jan 19, 2018
Collaboration to start anew

By Marie Marthe Saint Cyr | Executive Director

We have seen numerous natural events in Haiti but Hurricane Mathews left the most devastating land yet.  We have done partnership support and solidarity with current and prior community farming organizations during these grave events that have hit Haiti located in the tradewinds in the caribbean Sea.  This effort is a major one in that we set a multiphase approach to return the identified projects to pre-disaster functioning.

Having identified 27 projects, it was incombent upon us to seek resources to make the multiphase project a success.  We have completed the first two phases that comprised the emergency repair and now the rehabilitation of decimated or destroyed infrastructures of food production.  Lambi began working with 9 organizations. It is a partnership with the Kellogg Foundation that propelled us forward.  A grant from the Foundation has made it possible for us to assume the repair of 9 new projects that has brought us closer to our goal of sustainability.

Theprojects that will make the greatest difference in food production and gardens for new seedlings are the Ox plowing that maximize the acreage that is prepared for seeding and doing six time more tilling than tilling with a hoe. In addition the planting of fruit trees, coffee are major  revenue producing for farmers and enhance livelihood.   In addition the service for tilling can be hired and loans are made available to maximize the farmer's production.  Each organization, Association ACHLAP,  Mouvman Fratenite Major  (MFM) and Union Des Planteurs pour le Development Agricole et de L'Environment (UPLADEP) will be reinforcing their production by receiving  oxen and plows based on membership and community usage:

We are grateful for your continued support and welcome new partnership with W.K. Kellogg Foundation to make a difference in enhancing the capacity of the people of Kavayon, Okay, Manich to earn income pulling them out of poverty.
