Today's dynamic environment and digital world converge to create fast trendy and new image in words like "food security" or " insecurity" as you may coin it in your advocacy. Somehow it still survival and basic rights and regardless of terminology, it does not detract that it is about survival and rights. We cannot take food production, food cnsumption and purchase power apart as the cost of living increases and countries like Haiti is increasing import and decreases production while reducing the capacity to produce livelihood.
Therein lies our focus on producing gardens for local food production. 2017 has been a tough and successful year due to the emerging needs post a devastating storm that killed over 10,000 lives and over a million displaced. While we provided emergency support to 10,000 individuals in need we also supported the clearing of 6,500 acres to assure planting new seeds for food production; 1100 farmers worked together to make the work happen. The Center of Plaintain propagation added over 10,000 seedling of fruit and forest trees to replenish the land in the Artibonite region.
Oxplowing services assist farmers to increase the number of acres tilled for food production.
These activities took place because you care, you gave. The good thing is these projects are indicated sustainable and we will move ahead during 2018 increasing the impact on livelihood and access to food in the localities where we have established partnership with farmers and farming communities in rural Haiti.
Here are the goals we are asking you to support: to help farmers grow their crop and transform their harvest in cereal and consumable goods:
A. Food production through milling rice, millet, corn through construction of new mill at ODRO, TKTPLA, OSCED
B. Construction grain storage at UPLADEP
C. Production of Coffee and Mango at KOKAP and OPDGJC respectively.
D. Oxplowing services at OPADESH, UPLADEP, MFM, OPBK, OPB, KOPADET, TKLRMEYO, ACHLAP and MPL to increase land tilling and seeding.
We count on your help to achieve these 15 activities for the development of food gardens increasing the production of food for the local community.
