Since the goat projects and sheep projects are in the same program of Animal Husbandry and have the same goals of self-sufficiency, we are reporting on the recent sheep breeding project. The goat report will be finished next quarter.
In 2023, the Lambi Fund received the request for this sheep breeding project from the Peasant Chatri Development Organization in the Southern Department on the commune of Kavayon (1st section). After studying the file with the organization on the technical and organizational plan, Lambi Fund saw that the organization has the capacity to realize the project in the area.
We made the decision to finance this small project. It included an award of 1,285.380.00 gourds (9,181.29 US $) in the second quarter of 2023 to allow the organization to implement this sheep breeding project. The major activities in this project are the purchase of 55 sheep (50 females, 5 males), training for 30 members on sheep breeding techniques, the purchase of the necessary materials (pump), the purchase of medicine to take care of the animals, and engage a veterinary technician to supervise the organization during the duration of the project.
The project was launched in 2023 at the headquarters of the organization in the presence of 2 staff members of the Lambi Fund. Today all the planned activities have already started. There are 50 members who get a sheep each, these beneficiaries are distributed among 5 farms in the section (10 sheep/farm). There is a manager in each household who has a sheep in his hands and is also responsible for taking care of it. More details next report.
