April 2025 Update

By Lyhortt and the Project B team | Project B Communications Team

On behalf of the Project B Communications Team, we would like to update you on our upcoming bicycle distribution event, taking place later this month in April.

We recently interviewed 70 rural students. After collecting the data from all the interviewers, we did have a meeting with our team to recheck on the assessment again to choose the right students to receive our donation. We finally found 43 students who will recieve a bicycle and the 27 students will get study materials. To select the students, we follow our criteria:

  • Their houses are too far from school (2–5 kilometers away).
  • They are from poor families. We based on their incomes and the house condition.
  • The students have a strong commitment to continuing their education.
  • They are outstanding students. This time, some averages are below 30. However, we select who are the best.
  • The parents have strong encouragement for their children.
  • They lack of transportation solution to get school. Some students have a bike, but all are very old and broken.

Before the mission started - The PB communication team contacted the school director two weeks before the activities to prepare the students for interviewing and to secure a place for students and our contributors. We also booked the minibus, paired the interviewer into a group of 2, and prepared the documents for the activity’s day. Everything was ready to go, and we were already prepared for our activity.

During the mission - We gathered at the campus at 5:50 AM in the early morning and waited for the bus a bit. Then, we went directly to school because we already packed breakfast for the students. Because the school is quite far away from the town, it took more than an hour to reach the school. We ate breakfast when we arrived at school.

When we arrived there, the school director and teacher came out to greet us. We took the time to have great communication with the school director and also asked for the place we had asked him. After gathering and separating students into each village, we began to interview the students in the study room and the school’s yard. As we mentioned above, we pair interviewers into a group of 2 because it helps them in gathering data and making decisions. Working as a team is not taking too much time, helping each other and they can make the right decision by asking advice from each other.  All our contributors worked hard on gathering most of the information from the students, and also after they finished asking at school, some of our contributors took the bus to the student's homes, and some walked with them. They went to get more information from their family and took a few photos at their house.

Finally, we finished our activity at noon, and the weather was quite hot there, and we appreciate all our contributors’ kind-heartedness and their all assists on our mission even as they had to walk in the hot weather at such a far distance from the school.

At the end of the mission - After we gathered the team from the student’s home, our students and team said goodbye to the school director and teachers and thanked them for all their assistance so far. Our contributors to all our participants who had spent their precious time to involve themselves with us. We had lunch around Konpong Kdey Market. We arrived at Siem Reap at 2:30 PM.
