Projects On The Go

By Amna Hassan | Programmes Manager

This project will take its mobile makershift activity clubs to underprivileged girls schools, serving 1000 girls from 6 different low income government schools. These schools do not offer extracurricular activities and teaching remains dull and boring. The girls have scant opportunity to become excited and explore their capabilities. There is no learning by doing, which can help enhance useful life skills. In this scenario Projects on the Go brings them the opportunity to learn skills that they can enjoy and master.

This project will provide them with hands-on learning experience in Arts, Crafts, Electronics, ICT, Photography and Kitchen Gardening. It will allow them to tinker, experiment, create and analyze critically in addition to providing them loans to choose a career and start their own small businesses after the entrepreneurship training given by Alif Laila Book Bus Society.
The girls will be mentored by young women already in successful businesses so that
they can strengthen their ideas and products.

In the past month, keeping these goals in mind, we have identified and finalised the 6 schools we will collaborate with. We have been working on content development for the above mentioned clubs so that we can maximise our impact on and ensure efficient learning for our young beneficiaries.

Educational videos are being filmed, edited and finalised as we work on our one year plan to make this project both innovative and beneficial to these young girls.

Projects on the Go, our mobile maker space bus will be visiting (names of schools) and introduce young girls of grades 7 and 8, how to venture into their field of interest. 30-40 girls per grade.will be enrolled in this programme. They will be placed in the clubs they show interest and aptitude for and will learn essential skills related to the club they are in. After training, a few of the young girls who have demonstrated entrepreneurship tendencies will be assigned a project with financial assistance where they can design their own business. The idea is novel but young people have come forward with unique ideas that have launched successful businesses. We hope a few of the young girls we work with will be Trail Blazers too.

The past month has been about planning, modelling, demo visits and creating content that will trigger the imagination of our beneficiaries.

With adequate funding available, we hope to carry out this project effectively and open the door of entrepreneurship to these young girls.
