Dear Friends and Family of Our Ocean,
As you know we are facing a serious issue of overfishing and illegal fishing around the world and this includes the fishing for sharks and their fins is now at a critically low population worldwide. We know this comes down to some countries having a real lack of basic management, control and surveillance and that is why this project needs so much support and funding as we have to tackle the issues we face from every possible angle.
With your donations we work with our team to set the priorities that will maximise impact and be more critical against our fight over the next 3 months and with the funds we raised last quarter we decided the priority for us was surveillance, although we would love to have funded critical research that we could present to educate governments to get them to take a bigger stand, financially this came on our list as less critical.
The number of illegal fishing boats entering the water and fishing for sharks has risen to an alarming rate and with so few charities and governments tackling the issue we had to step up and re-allocate our funding to getting patrols out into the water and focus on finding and prosection of illegal fishing boats.
While we know this is not sustainable it has ended the quarter in success with our team saving many sharks and now we will review our fundraising to focus on more sustainable routes moving forward.
We are 100% funded by our amazing supporters, friends and family that donate to our project and we thank you for your support to our project. While we love the work we do it simply is not possible without you and we never forget this. If you ever want to join us on our misison or find out more please do get in touch with myself or the team at action change.
Thank you again!
Marcia
