At Little Rock ECD centre, we have planned activities, realized activities and the outcome/input of each of the activities.
Inclusive Early Childhood Education & care play and Learn
Inclusive Early Childhood Education & care play and Learn has made is possible for 200 children to attend the early childhood education from Monday to Friday, the learning has been made easy for the children because the learning materials are readily available. The activity has also led increased acces to the reading materals by the children e.g the story books.
This activity has led to the following outcomes:
Some children reached their development milestones and others have shown great improvement, some gained school readiness skills e.g. the manipulative skills because of the availability of educational toys and they also shown improvement in reading skills, writing amd number work.
Therapy care
The therapy care has anabled us to provide group therapy sessions twice a week to 1oo chidren and Hydro-therapy sessions to 46 children once a week. 23 HIV(+) children attend the psycho-social support session twice a month.
The therapy care activity has helped children to strengthen their fine motor skills, some children have managed to walk and have gained their mobidity, other have acquired speech, the activity has also provided a good and effective support system that enables children channel their challenges, emotions and experiences.
Nutritional Care
This activity has made it possible for 200 chidren take the mid-morning snack(mixed porridge) and Hot Lunch every day(Monday to Friday). All the children take an afternoon Nap before the parents finally pick them at 3.30pm.
This activity has anabled the children to get balamced diet which has enhanced their concentration in the class. It has also helped to boost the pupils attendance and maintain it at 98% because to some chidren, the lunch provided in school is the only meal for the day and this has motivated them to come to school.
After school program
The program has created room for 50 grade 1,2 & 3 pupils access course books and story books from Little Rock Library. All the pupils take dinner after the library session before finally going back home.
The program has provided an opportunity for the pupils to finish their home work and it has also enhanced their reading culture by reading story books once a week.
Number of staff
Our staff comprises of 4 trained teacher & 3 special need teachers, 5 assistant teachers/volunteers, 2 occupational therapists/volunteers, 4 cooks, 8 cleaners and 2 drivers.
The therapists enables the speicial need children gain the needed resilience to cope in learning environment and enhance social skills for everyday interaction, finally, support staff have made the evronment conducive for learning.
