Our Papua lab project was one of the projects featured on the April Little x Little campaign. We needed $12,580 to build the new lab and stock it with the necessary testing and medical equipment, supplies and reagents. During the week-long campaign, we raised $3062 towards our total goal.
Our Papua clinic had already broken ground for the lab at the back of the clinic and walls were already built. Most of the cost was needed to supply the lab with things like a microscope, sterilizer and testing reagents.
We were looking forward to needing perhaps a year to fund this project. Until the staff at the Bumi Sehat Bali clinic had a huge and pleasant surprise....
Early in the April Little x Little campaign, the Bali clinic had a visitor who wanted to make a donation to a large project—something that might take a while to fund otherwise. Our staff suggested he make a donation to the Papua lab through GlobalGiving and then his donation would be matched at 50%. The visitor asked how much was still needed for the project. The staff member told him around $12,000 (at that point). So the donor pulled out his credit card and said, 'OK, just put $12,000 on my credit card then." After recovering from their initial shock—and double-checking that the donor was serious—the staff member did just that.
So, this is a roundabout way to tell you that the Papua Lab is FULLY FUNDED and we can now close this project and move onto funding the next one. We will put the extra funds towards the lab worker's salary.
Thank you for all your support and love, especially during the Little x Little campaign. We love all our donors equally - we know that everyone is giving what they can and we really appreciate your ongoing support of our programs. We wouldn't be here in Bali without you. Or in Papua, or in Lombok, or in Aceh. You keep our doors open and the lights on and we are so grateful.
With love and gratitude,
Ibu Robin and Team Bumi Sehat
