After being told that her facility was congested with many clients and being charged for some of the health services needed, Maria, a 54-year-old sister, mother, and grandmother was forced to disclose to one of her siblings about her HIV status in the need to find a better health care centre. Surprisingly, when she told one of her sisters about her situation as she was seeking advice on where to go, her sister too disclosed that she was currently on ART treatment at a facility called Alive Medical Services.
“It was surprising how I thought I was the only one living with HIV in our family and I thought if I told any of my relatives, they would judge me. I was shocked when my sister told me she was also on medication, and she told me her little secret that if you adhere to your ARVS well and take good care of yourself you will be healthy !.” Maria narrates.
Instead of judgment as Maria had anticipated, her sister told her about the amazing and caring facility called Alive Medical Services that there’s no day she regrets why she joined. Ever since, Maria and her sister have held each other by the hand and have moved on together.
Maria recalls that by the time she transferred to Alive Medical Services, her situation wasn’t pleasant at all, “in fact you could tell that I had HIV by just mere looking at me.”
Maria has had a great experience in the change of her health status, she loves herself more, and she embraces the fact that she's healthy despite her status. Maria is grateful to the entire team of Alive Medical Services and all AMS partners and donors who provide the resources for AMS to provide all clients with treatment, care, and support. We thank GlobalGiving for supporting AMS to continue to provide services during the crisis of COVID-19.
