4 Report Providing Children Job Skills

By Maricarmen Bonilla | Fundraising

Introduction

We are pleased to share the latest progress in our mission to empower children and young people with vital job skills through the STEAM programs within the Technology and Trades pillar. This program, hosted by the Club de Niños y Niñas in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, aims to equip children and adolescents with the technical and soft skills essential for success in an increasingly competitive job skills.

Key Achievements Over the Last Quarter

  1. STEAM Workshops: We have continued to host a wide range of workshops in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), designed to spark curiosity and practical knowledge among our participants. This quarter, more than 250 children attended workshops on topics including robotics, programming, and digital arts. This exposure not only enhances their academic knowledge but also introduces them to emerging career fields.
  2. Enhanced Practical Skills: The recent addition of hands-on vocational training has proved invaluable for many of our members. Through engaging activities, such as woodworking, basic electronics, and introductory engineering projects, participants are acquiring practical skills that are directly relevant to various trades. The hands-on learning approach has received excellent feedback, with children expressing excitement about applying what they learn in their everyday lives.
  3. Focus on Soft Skills: To ensure our participants are prepared for real-world work environments, we also focus on developing soft skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. These skills are practiced daily, and we have seen significant progress as children grow more confident in collaborative settings.

Impact of Donations

We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from GlobalGiving donors. Their contributions have allowed us to upgrade and expand our resources, such as purchasing new equipment and hiring additional instructors. With these improvements, our program now offers a more comprehensive and engaging experience for the children. This is only possible thanks to the generosity of our donors, who contribute directly to a better future for these young minds.

Looking to the future

As part of the preparation we provide to our partners we have taken them to different competitions and activities

  • World Robot Olympiad (WRO): We attended this competition on August 3rd. This event was an invaluable opportunity for the children to participate in a national competition. We participated in 3 different categories:
    • Elementary Category, boys and girls of elementary level, we obtained 5th place.
    • Junior Category, boys and girls of secondary level, we obtained the 4th place.
    • Senior category, boys and girls of high school level, we obtained the 8th place.
  • Drone-Adventure Project: During the summer we taught the children to build their own drone, we bought the materials to build it from scratch, first we explained to them what a drone is, what it is for, and with the information they digitally designed their drone and finally they built it, some of them were able to get it to rise 1 meter high.
  • Maker Faire: It was an amazing experience where they not only had fun, but also learned and discovered countless new ideas that inspire them for their technology and robotics projects such as First Tech Challenge. The children were amazed by the number of ingenious projects that different makers presented. They had the opportunity to explore everything from 3D printers and advanced robotics to eco-friendly and tech art projects. They were especially excited to see how other people were applying technology in everyday life to solve real problems. Many of them took notes and photos to take those ideas back to the Club to improve their own robots.

Thank You for Your Support

Your contributions are making a tangible difference in these children’s lives, providing them with the skills, confidence, and resources they need to envision and pursue a brighter future. Thank you for joining us on this journey and for believing in the potential of every child. Together, we are building a community that nurtures young talent and prepares them for success.

With heartfelt gratitude,
