Every Drop Counts!

By Karol Hermoza | Program Manager

Dear Supporters,

The Piuray-Ccorimarca micro basin gives more than 40% of its water to the city of Cusco. Unfortunately, the mass tourism happening in Cusco has stressing this vital resource not only for the city but for the whole Chinchero district where our volunteers work. Also, the plans to build an international airport in Chinchero is taking away some of the water resources in this area. Our efforts to support water on this area and improve the resources have proven to be the right path.

At the Pongobamba School, we have continued to work on the greenhouse we built with GVI volunteers. All three levels at the school, kindergarten, primary and secondary schools have been working on their spaces in order to start growing nutritious food that will also preserve the environment and our water sources.

We partnered up with the local government of Chinchero and our main partner CBC, to contribute towards environmental education workshops in schools, not only in the Piuray microb-basin but also in the main city of Chinchero, that will help preserve the environment and the water around the Piuray micro-basin. We mainly taught about organic and inorganic differences as well as compost, all these outcomes will help preserve water and the organic procedures the communities still practice.

As part of these workshops, there was a final event of recycling where students showed their best outfits made from recycled material in order to create awareness of environmental conservation and how the mistreatment of garbage can hurt our water sources.

Once again, a massive thank you to our generous donors for your ongoing support during 2019!

With Gratitude,

Peru Water
