The section below summarizes the work done during the month of October 2018.
ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM and Capacity Building
NTAHUBA Parfaite, the national coordinator of Friends Women’s Association, attended the Segal Family Foundation 2018 Annual General Meeting on October 4-6, 2018 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi.
ACTIVITIES
Rape Survivors’ Support (RSS)
One trauma healing workshop for Gender-Based Violence survivors was done on October 16-18, 2018. There was also a follow up session for 40 people who attended the July 2018 trauma healing workshops. Two main results: one self-help group of 16 people was created and two women who were in conflicts were reconciled
At the end of October 2018, 25 self-help groups were functioni
On October 31, 2018, FWA staff self-help group joined the world to celebrate the International Day of Savings and Credit. We were able to save BIF4.680.000 over a period of one year. This means around $2,600 (USD).
Street Business School
Since the month of September 2018, FWA has initiated another program “The Street Business School”. 40 women are being trained on the street business approach.
Caring for HIV Positive People (CHIVPP)
During this month of October 2018, medical follow up and home visits were done for our HIV positive people.
Through Red Cross Burundi, nutritional support is still provided to our HIV positive beneficiaries.
Maternity Ward Building
In the month of October 2018, we have continued our building project. The cost of the building materials is increasing every day.
Improving Women’s Reproductive Health (IWRH)
FWA community health workers have continued to mobilize people for HIV voluntary test and family planning. Three sessions were organized for our community health workers capacity building.
Action on Gender-Based Violence (AGBV)
In the month of October 2018, a three-day workshop was organized for young people. The topic was national rules on homes and families. The purpose was to prepare young people to have safe homes where there is no gender-based violence. There was also evaluation on the workshops previously done.
Medical Team
CONSULTATIONS
117 cases were consulted by our medical doctors, including 31 children, 37 adults and 49 people under ARVs treatment. The nurse received 357 patients including 253 adults and 104 children.
LABORATORY
In the month of October 2018, apart from HIV voluntary testing, there were a total of 343 tests.

FAMILY PLANNING
356 people received contraceptives from FWA’s nurse, including 254 old cases and 102 new ones. 303 received the contraceptive injection, 28 were given pills, 4 received implants, 2 received collar method and 19 received male condoms.
PRENATAL CONSULTATION (PNC)
In the month of October 2018, 47 women came for prenatal consultation (PNC), including 26 came for PNC 1, 9 for PNC 2, 7 for PNC 3 and 5 came for PNC 4.
Anti-Retroviral SITE
At the end of October 2018, we had 269 patients under retro drugs followed at NTASEKA clinic, including 216 women and 53 men.
PHARMACY
FWA had all necessary medicines for the month of October 2018.
PSYCHOSOCIAL TEAM
In the month of October 2018, a total of 238 people received pre and post HIV test counseling and were tested for HIV; 67% of them were women and among the 26 people detected HIV positive, 24 were women with 11% of seropositivity.
