Friends Women’s Association’s JANUARY 2019 Report

ACTIVITIES
Rape Survivors’ Support (RSS)
At the end of January 2019, 31 self-help groups were functioning
In January 2019, there was an evaluation of GIRIYUJA and ISHAKA self-help groups. These two groups started in January 2018, and on their first day, ISHAKA members saved $5 as a group of 20 women. On January 21, 2019, they had a total capital of $845USD while GIRIYUJA had a total of $903USD as their capital.
Caring for HIV Positive People (CHIVPP)
During this month of January 2019, medical follow up and home visits were done for our HIV positive people.
Through Red Cross Burundi, nutritional support is still provided to our HIV positive beneficiaries.
Maternity Ward Building
In the month of January 2019, nothing was added to our building project.
Improving Women’s Reproductive Health (IWRH)
FWA community health workers and FWA staff have continued to mobilize people for HIV voluntary test and family planning.
Two discussion groups were organized. Key populations were touched, including sex workers and their partners.
1. Sex Workers
Through voluntary test, no one was found HIV positive among the 16 sex workers did HIV voluntary test.
2. Sex Workers Partners
They discussed on HIV transmission forms and prevention. All of them did HIV voluntary test, and out of 16 people, two were found HIV positive. Since February 2019, they are under ARVs treatment at NTASEKA clinic.
Action on Gender-Based Violence (AGBV)
The GBV local facilitators in Giheta, Gitega province have continued to educate people to raise awareness against GBV. They also give counselling to both the survivors and the perpetrators of GBV.
Medical Team
CONSULTATIONS
87 cases were consulted by our medical doctors, including 29 children, 32 adults and 26 HIV positive people. The nurse received 386 patients including 273 adults and 113 children.
LABORATORY
In the month of January 2019, apart from HIV voluntary testing, there were a total of 320 tests.

FAMILY PLANNING
354 people received contraceptives from FWA’s nurse, including 238 old cases and 116 new ones. 301 received the contraceptive injection, 37 were given pills, 1 received implant, 2 received collar method and 13 received male condoms.
PRENATAL CONSULTATION (PNC)
In the month of January 2019, 30 women came for prenatal consultation (PNC), including 11 came for PNC 1, 11 for PNC 2, 7 for PNC 3 and 1 came for PNC 4.
Anti-Retroviral SITE
At the end of January 2019, we had 290 patients under retro drugs followed at NTASEKA clinic, including 235 women and 55 men.
PHARMACY
FWA had all necessary medicines for the month of January 2019.
PSYCHOSOCIAL TEAM
In the month of January 2019, a total of 175 people received pre and post HIV test counseling and were tested for HIV; 57% of them were women and out of the 10 people detected HIV positive 8 were women with 6% of seropositivity.
