International Women's Day March
International Women's Day March

The section below summarizes the work done during the month of March 2020.

On March 9,2020, FWA joined the world to celebrate the Women’s International Day. In the area of women socio-economic empowerment, at the end of February 2020, FWA had a total of 78 self-help groups for a total of 1788 women. Members of the SHGs saved some money together to rejoice together for the step already achieved. Firstly, there was a gathering at Ntaseka Clinic, secondly  a parade led by the women themselves and thirdly there was a reception where all the women ate,  drank together and danced after FWA national coordinator speech and some testimonies.

ACTIVITIES             Caring for HIV Positive People (CHIVPP)

During this month of February 2020, medical follow up and home visits were done for our HIV positive people.

Maternity Ward Building

Under the support of GlobalGiving Platform, AGLI and Vancouver Island Monthly Meeting and FWA members contributions, we were able to complete our building roof. Now the next step is to close our building. This will cost $10,000. So, we would like to invite anyone to spread this project so that we can achieve our next step.

SUPPORT FOR BUTERERE FLOOD VICTIMS

In the month of February 2020, FWA was able to raise some funds through the GlobalGiving Platform to support 11 families from Buterere whose houses collapsed due to the flood. So, the 11 families were given rice, beans, Burundian Fabric and women dignity kit as a sign of compassion. Actually, FWA slogan is “Umukobwa ntaseka uwundi araseruka”. This means that rather than ignore the misfortune of a young woman, support her in her difficult time; tomorrow it might be you who is in need”. This slogan has pushed us to react by supporting some of the flood victims.

Improving Women’s Reproductive Health (IWRH)

FWA community health workers and FWA staff have continued to educate men, women and young people on the importance of family planning.
