The Children’s Health Program (CHEP) is dedicated to providing essential medical care to children whose families cannot afford healthcare services at established health centers. Recognizing that a healthy childhood is the foundation for a healthy life, CHEP focuses on preventative care and treatment to ensure that children grow up strong and healthy.
Medical staff from Kimlea Clinic make regular visits to schools on fixed days, conducting comprehensive yearly check-ups for all enrolled children. These check-ups include deworming at least three times a year, the provision of vitamins and supplements, and, when necessary, the distribution of food to malnourished children. For severe cases, the program follows up with the families to ensure ongoing care. Additionally, children receive treatment and any necessary medical tests during these visits.
Over the past six months, CHEP has made a significant impact. A total of 2,322 children have been dewormed, given vitamins, undergone health check-ups, and received treatment for various ailments. Moreover, all children were screened for eyesight issues, with 31 identified as having serious problems; these children have since begun receiving the necessary treatment which was done in partnership with Lions Eye Hospital.
In addition to healthcare services, CHEP has identified and responded to cases of severe poverty and hunger among the children’s families. In the past few months, the program has distributed 395 kg of maize, 290 kg of sugar, 105 kg of flour, 40 kg of lentils, and 60 kg of beans to support these families, helping to alleviate hunger and improve their overall well-being.
